Euroseeds AGM 2019

Every year, the Annual Meeting of Euroseeds grows bigger and bigger, and this year it was held in Stockholm on the 14th of October. NOWMORE was invited to moderate a session on EU seed legislation, and how it can continue to promote sustainable agriculture and adapt to innovations in the market, as well as in official testing methods for plant varieties and materials.

The panellists included Päivi Mannerkorpi from the European Commission, Martin Ekvad from the Community Plant Variety Office, Paolo Annicchiarico from the Council of Agricultural Research and Economics, and Nigel Moore from KWS as Chair of the Euroseeds Working Group on Variety Testing and Registration.

Plant breeding, at the start of the crop production value chain, has a huge role and responsibility in delivering on societal challenges such as food security and climate change. But there is still a lot of unfinished work ahead in setting the right policy framework for seeds to enter the EU market.
